Volunteer Role Descriptions
There's roles available to suit everyone at the MS Moonlight Walk!
We have a suite of Pre-Event roles if you're not avaliable on the night including letterbox drops, lantern building and event site set up.
Keen to be apart of the action at Roma Street Parkland? There are plenty of roles avaliable at the Moonlight Festival or out on course, helping shine a light back to the Celebration Lawn for post walk celebrations!!

Pre Event Assistants
Pre Event Assistants will join the MS Queensland team at their office in Milton in the weeks leading up to the event to assist with important pre event admin to make sure everything is finalised and ready to go! Tasks may include packing, printing, laminating and mailing.
You will be contact by the team if there is a shift avaliable for you.
Lantern Building Crew
The lantern building crew will be assisting on the Friday or Saturday to build lanterns and check the batteries. If you would like to help out for this beautiful event but aren’t available on the Saturday, this is another great option for volunteers who can spare a few hours prior to the event.
Lantern Building Crew will be required onsite from 10am – 3pm on Friday 17 October
Event Set Up Crew
The event set up crew will be assisting to set up event signage such as flags, fence mesh, and corflutes. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and setting up tables. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry and are looking to gain some hands-on experience.
Event Set Up Crew will be required onsite from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 18 October
Course Marshals
Course marshals are responsible for keeping participants on track and well-supported while they complete the course in the Roma St Parkland. As signage can not be erected in the parklands, course marshals are critical to ensure participants know which way to go. On top of this, your fun and vibrant personality will be a bonus, as you cheer participants on as they pass by.
The Course Marshals will be required onsite between 5pm – 9:00pm on Saturday 18 October
Water Station Crew
The water station crew are responsible for keeping participants hydrated while they complete the course. You will be located on course or in the Roma St Parkland start/finish area, managing the finish line water station. You will be assisting with the set-up, pack down and maintenance of the water station… and most importantly cheering on participants!
The Water Station Crew will be required onsite between 5pm – 9:00pm on Saturday 18 October.
Start and Finish Line Marshals
The start and finish line marshals will be corralling participants at the start line and holding them in position until they are instructed to begin. You will be scattered throughout the Celebration Lawn area in Roma St Parkland to ensure crowd flow is efficient. Start line marshals will also act as roaming information points and answer basic participant questions.
Your role is then integral to keep the finish venue running smoothly throughout the event. You will be split up to manage crowd flow across a number of areas in the finish venue including the finish chute, toilets and facilities queues, and general points of crowding identified across the venue. As this role involves getting people moving, if you have a loud and outgoing personality, this role is for you!
Start and Finish Line Marshals will be required onsite from 5:30pm – 9pm on Saturday 18 October
Moonlight Festival Attendants
The Moonlight Festival Attendants are responsible for ensuring that our participants are supported in the below areas at the finish venue:
- Information Tent: greeting walkers and answering any questions they might have.
- Merch Tent: Assist in selling merchandise to participants via cash and eftpos.
- MS Moonlight Walk Photo wall: Help participants take photos in front of the MS MLW photo wall.
- Donations: Collect donations from participants via cash and eftpos.
- Top Fundraisers/Rewards: Assist staff in the rewards tent by handing out rewards and celebrating top fundraisers.
- Hydration Station: Help participants fill up their water bottles from the water tank.
- Kids Area: Assist children and families in the kids area, to ensure safety and general tidiness.
- Luggage Tent: Place wrist band on bag with participant’s name, place in luggage tent area.
Moonlight Festival Attendants will be required from 3:30pm – 10pm on Saturday 18 October.
Event Pack Down Crew
Event pack down crew volunteers will be assisting to pack up event signage including flags, fence mesh, and corflutes around the finish village. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and packing down tables which is relevant to each volunteer’s capabilities. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry to gain some hands-on experience. If you don’t mind some physical work or want to help out after an earlier shift, this role is for you.
Event Pack Down Crew will be required onsite from 9pm – 10pm on Saturday 18 October
