Volunteer Role Descriptions
There are a variety of roles available to suit all volunteers at the MS Moonlight Walk!
We have Pre-Event roles if you're not avaliable on the night - including letterbox drops, lantern building and event site set up.
Keen to be part of the action at Roma Street Parkland? There are plenty of roles avaliable at the Moonlight Festival site or out on course, helping shine a light back to the Celebration Lawn for post-walk entertainment!

Pre-Event Assistants
Join the MS Queensland events team at their office in Milton in the weeks leading up to the event. Assist us with important pre-event admin to make sure everything is finalised and ready to go! Tasks may include packing, printing, laminating and mailing.
You will be contacted by a staff member if there's a shift avaliable for you.
Lantern Building Crew
Assist on Friday 9 October or during the day on Saturday 10 October to build lanterns and check their batteries. If you would like to volunteer and help us with the event but aren’t available on the Saturday evening, this is another great option for supporters who can spare a few hours prior to the event.
Lantern Building Crew will be required onsite from 10:00am – 3:00pm on Friday 9 October.
Event Set Up Crew
Assist with setting up event signage such as flags, fence banners, and corflute posters. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and setting up tables. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry looking to gain some hands-on experience.
Event Set Up Crew will be required onsite from 10:00am – 4:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
Course Marshals
Responsible for keeping participants on track and well-supported while they complete their course in Roma Street Parkland. Signage can not be erected in the parkland gardens, so our course marshals are critical to ensure participants know which way to go. On top of this, your fun and vibrant personality will be a bonus, as you cheer on participants as they pass by.
Course Marshals will be required onsite between 5:00pm – 9:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
Water Station Crew
Responsible for keeping participants hydrated while they complete the course. You will be located on course or in the Roma Street Parkland start/finish area, managing the water station. You'll be assisting with the set-up, pack down and maintenance of the water station… and most importantly cheering on participants!
Water Station Crew will be required onsite between 5:00pm – 9:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
Start and Finish Line Marshals
Responsible for corralling participants at the start line and holding them in position until they are instructed to go. You'll be scattered throughout the Celebration Lawn area in Roma Street Parkland to ensure crowd flow is efficient. Start Line Marshals will also act as roaming information points and answer basic participant questions.
This role is also integral to keeping the finish line and event site running smoothly throughout the evening. You will be split up to manage crowd flow across a number of areas including the finish line, toilets and facilities queues, and general points of crowding identified across the venue. As this role involves getting people moving, if you have a loud and outgoing personality, this role is for you!
Start and Finish Line Marshals will be required onsite from 5:30pm – 9:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
Moonlight Festival Attendants
Responsible for ensuring our event participants are supported in the below areas at the finish venue:
- Information Tent: greeting walkers/runners and answering any questions they might have.
- Merch Tent: assist in selling official event merchandise to participants via cash and EFTPOS.
- MS Moonlight Walk Photo Wall: help participants take photos they'll cherish in front of the MS Moonlight Walk photo wall.
- Donations: walk around the venue and collect donations from participants via cash and EFTPOS.
- Top Fundraisers Rewards: assist MS QLD staff in the Fundraising Rewards Tent by handing out earned merchandise rewards and celebrating our top fundraisers.
- Hydration Station: chat to participants and help them fill up their water bottles from the water tank.
- Kids Area: assist children and families in the kids play area, to ensure safety and general tidiness.
- Luggage Tent: write out and place tags on bags with the participant’s name and contact number, then secure items/bags safely in the storage racks of the luggage tent area. $3 donation for this service (cash or EFTPOS).
Moonlight Festival Attendants will be required from 3:30pm – 10:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
Event Pack Down Crew
Volunteers will be helping to pack up the event signage including flags, fence banners and corflute posters around the event venue. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and packing down tables - in line with each volunteer’s capabilities. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the events industry looking to gain some hands-on experience. If you don’t mind some physical work or want to help out after an earlier shift, this role is for you.
Event Pack Down Crew will be required onsite from 9:00pm – 10:00pm on Saturday 10 October.
